Santa's Lap

Here’s one to ponder as you head over the river and through the woods.

No sooner did I put up a post requesting holiday-themed photographs than a friend of mine sent this photo of himself as a jolly elf—complete with a North Pole, no less.

And since you’re wondering: Her? Had her.

Be nice to your loved ones. Enjoy your stuffing.

  4. The her is an inside joke inherited from Edmund White's The Beautiful Room is Empty, a coming-of-age tale of a young gay man in 1950s Chicago.

If a queen wanted to put down another, he might sniff: "Her? Had her."

Or was it: "I had her when she was young and pretty."

I'd look it up, but I gave away my copy--probably to the fellow whose candy cane adorns this post.

  6. A story to tell,
    A moment to dwell,
    A face to reveal,
    Or to conceal?

Happy thanksgiving to my American cousins
